Frequently Asked Questions to help you better understand the Push Doctor service in your area.
Do I have to pay to use Push Doctor?
The service will be free of charge for all patients registered with a Hounslow GP.
Will I still be registered at my GP surgery if I use Push Doctor?
Yes, you’ll remain registered with your GP surgery. Push Doctor is an additional service to provide more access to see a GP in Hounslow. It’s the same as seeing any other doctor in your practice but by video call instead.
How can I access the service?
Some GP surgeries will invite patients to use the service on a case-by-case basis, in this case you’ll receive an invitation to register and use the service. Other GP surgeries will enable all its registered patients to access the service. You can search for your GP surgery by clicking “I am new to Push Doctor” on this webpage. If your GP surgery is live, you’ll be able to register and book appointments.
Do I have to wait until I need an appointment to set up a profile?
No. In fact, we’d recommend you setting up your profile and getting familiar with the Push Doctor app or website first, so that you’re already set up should you need an appointment. The Push Doctor Customer Experience team is available if you’re having difficulties setting up your profile. Email the team at support@pushdoctor.co.uk and they'll get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can call 0330 808 4702. The team is available Monday to Friday between 8am - 8pm, and at weekends between 9am - 4pm.
Can Push Doctor GPs request tests and referrals? How does this work?
Push Doctor GPs can request the same tests as your GP and the results go back to your GP. The Push Doctor GP will notify your GP of any tests requested as part of your consultation. If you need a referral, then the Push Doctor GP will prepare all the information for the referral and notify your GP surgery who will send it off.
Is Push Doctor being rolled out across all Hounslow GP surgeries?
Yes, all 46 GP surgeries in Hounslow will be working with Push Doctor to provide additional digital GP appointments.
Can my appointment be by telephone instead of a video call?
Push Doctor offers video consultations as it provides the Push Doctor GP with the most accurate information possible. It shouldn’t feel any different than visiting a GP in person as we have done traditionally. Within the Push Doctor application and your video consultation, you’re also able to write in a chat box. Please remember, Push Doctor is one of many ways of accessing a GP in Hounslow. If you prefer a telephone consultation, you’re still able to use e-consult as advertised on your GP surgery’s website or by contacting your practice directly.
What if I can’t attend my appointment?
As with all NHS services, it’s really important to cancel your appointment if you know that you can’t attend. If you don’t attend your appointment without cancelling it, it wastes NHS resources. You can cancel your appointment by heading to your account area on the Push Doctor website or app in the "Upcoming appointments" section, or alternatively, give the Push Doctor patient experience team a call on 0330 808 4702.
Is there a pathway to other services, such as NHS111 and the local Extended Access Out of Hours service?
If the Push Doctor GP believes you need an urgent face-to-face GP appointment, they’ll book you one to see a local GP. For example, with the local Extended Access Out of Hours service. A Push Doctor GP may also direct you to other services, which could include A&E or other urgent care services, as appropriate. If you become critically unwell or unconscious during a video consultation, the Push Doctor GP can request emergency assistance. However, Push Doctor should NOT be used in urgent situations or medical emergencies. If you think that your situation, or someone else’s, is or might become an emergency, you should IMMEDIATELY STOP using (or trying to use) the service and call 999.
Is this a long-term plan or being rolled out in response to the pandemic for a time-limited period?
The service is part of a longer-term plan to increase General Practice access in Hounslow. We also believe it will be invaluable for GP surgeries and patients during, and after, the Covid-19 pandemic.
Who’s paying for your services? Is it the GP surgery, Primary Care Network (PCN), GP Consortium or Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)?
The service is paid for by GP surgeries working together in PCNs, using funding available to develop new services and improve patient access.
Are there any future enhancements planned?
Push Doctor is continually looking to develop its service and digital solutions. We’ll communicate any additional features that become available to you through your GP surgery and other communication routes.
Are children able to access the service?
Push Doctor is working closely with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure that we can provide child consultations safely through our service. Until very recently this was not possible but we’ve just started a phased roll out of this consultation type. All Hounslow GP surgeries will be able to use the service for child consultations (with the appropriate consenting adults where required) by the end of February 2021. The Push Doctor website may provide conflicting information initially as this is not yet available to all areas of the country.
Does Push Doctor connect to wearables?
Although you aren’t able to connect your wearable technology to the Push Doctor app, all the GPs are familiar with the readings from wearables which can be used during your consultations if needed.
How do I know a communication from Push Doctor is genuine?
Push Doctor will never ask you for personal information and/or payment details over the phone or text message. If you receive any information or communication which you do not consider to be a genuine communication, please contact Push Doctor to clarify its authenticity. Find out how to contact Push Doctor at www.pushdoctor.co.uk/contact-us.
Will my consultation be recorded?
Push Doctor believes that your consultation in a digital environment should be the same as that in a consulting room in your surgery. Therefore, we do not record the video session or any audio from the consultation. As with a physical consultation, the only record of the consultation will be that taken by the GP and added to your medical records in the normal way.
